Carrying on the Legacy of English Farmstead Cheese

The English Family, sixth generation dairy farmers with a family farm located in the North Cove of McDowell County, NC, began making cheese in 2013 using the milk from their herd of dairy cattle. Led by Susan English, their delicious, small-batch cheeses quickly developed a following from folks in McDowell County and beyond.

Travelers from near and far making their way up and down Highway 221 made a point to stop by the English Farmstead store to stock up on favorites before heading to their next destination.

English Farmstead products also made their way into local shops, breweries, wineries, and restaurants throughout Western North Carolina, including our family-owned and operated restaurant, McDowell Local, where we incorporated their cheeses into our menu for the seven years we were open on Marion’s historic Main Street. When Susan announced her retirement from cheese making, we were presented with a serendipitous opportunity to carry on what she had created. And with that, we closed McDowell Local to embark on this new adventure.

Three Sisters Cheese is named for our daughters - the real three sisters. Our family is honored to have been entrusted with the recipes and legacy created by Susan English and her family, and our goal is to continue producing the delicious, small-batch cheeses you know and love!
